Mrs Martin (Head of Year 3)

Following our Unit of Inquiry into belonging to a community helps us to connect with our identity, Year 3 were introduced to the book the Name Jar by Yangsook Choi, a story about a young girl who moves to the US from Korea and is worried no one will be able to say her name correctly. 

We went on to read Your Name is a Song by Jamilah Thomkins-Bigelow. A story that highlights the frustration of a girl who finds that no one can pronounce her beautiful name. 

We created an iTrailer of our own ‘My Name is a Song’ stories to celebrate their meaning. We finish them singing our names, so that they are always pronounced correctly and everyone learns the beauty in our name.
