Mrs Button (Year 6 Teacher)
On Thursday 6th October, Year 6 collaborated with the Year 6 boys from Bedford Prep School for an activities day with a focus on building teamwork, cooperation and communication skills. 6I and 6H spent time at Bedford Prep School in the morning, while 6CS and 6BR hosted boys here. Then the classes swapped over at lunchtime, so everyone got to enjoy the various activities and facilities at both schools.
There were four different activities at each school. For the activities here, the students rotated around: building a wooden mathematical bridge with no nails or tape; creating 3D structures with spaghetti and marshmallows; building newspaper towers and a physical strategy game with numbers.
While at Bedford Prep School, the students had the opportunity to: solve a giant marble maze; complete balloon team challenges; play Lego charades and create a combined piece of artwork as a team.
In each activity they were given the opportunity to reflect on their teamwork, cooperation and communication skills, to try to make improvements.
Amelia (6BR) said: “I had lots of fun and I enjoyed getting to know some of the boys as we worked as a team.”
Leah (6BR) said: “I really enjoyed the activities and getting to interact with the boys.”
Emily (6I) said: “It gave us a chance to collaborate and do fun activities with Bedford Prep School – not just those in our class or year group.”
Hollie (6I) said: “The activity day gave us a chance to collaborate with pupils we hadn't met before. The hardest thing was speaking to new people but as we went on with all the activities, we got more comfortable with each other and it got easier.”
