After yet another outstanding House Drama competition, the results have been announced, with Nightingale lifting the coveted trophy with an original and humorous performance of the classic nursery rhyme, Humpty Dumpty. Nightingale were closely followed by Austen in 2nd place with their version of Cinderella, which was full of humour and Franklin with a polished performance of an original story ‘Lemonade Legs’ finished 3rd.

The Lower Sixth and Year 7s were delighted to be able to collaborate and prepare their performances together this year. The Lower Sixth students’ directors were well prepared with each House having written their own play script with the brief that each play needed to champion one of the IB learner Profile Attributes: Open-minded; Thinker; Reflective; Inquirer; Caring; Risk-taker.

The scripts and performances were extremely creative and the Lower Sixth teams thoroughly enjoyed working with the Year 7s to create something very special.

Mrs Axford (Assistant Head) said: “The buzz and excitement on Monday afternoon was palpable. I am not sure who was more nervous and excited the Year 7’s or the Lower Sixth but I would like to thank the Lower Sixth for making it such a memorable experience, and the Year 7’s for stepping out of their comfort zones and throwing themselves into their performances!”

Mrs Gibson (Headmistress) who was part of the judging panel, added: “As always, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the House Drama competition, where it is evident that the Year 7s have grown in confidence and the Lower Sixth students have learned valuable leadership skills. I think the performances get better each year. Nightingale were very well deserved in winning due to their creativity; their reimagining of the Humpty Dumpty story as a murder mystery with lots of “egg-cellent” puns was very inventive and really engaged the audience.”

Ava Oliver (Lower Sixth, Nightingale) said: “House Drama was such a fun experience for both the Year 7s and Lower Sixth, it was great to develop friendships with people in our house. We also gained more leadership skills as we had the opportunity to write and direct the play as well as design it and we could see the year 7s confidence and creativity bloom over the four weeks. Another bonus would be the Nightingales win! A great way to end such a positive experience and the year 7s deserved it so much after all of their hard work”

Karin Saedi (Year 7, Austen) said: “The Lower Sixth students were so kind and helped us to improve so much. All the hard work they put into the House Drama performance paid off and helped me find my inner drama!”

Maia Arvinte (Year 7, Parks) said: “I had such a fun time doing House Drama. I really enjoyed throwing the cardboard knickers as well! It was a great opportunity to communicate and come up with something amazing with the Lower Sixth students.”
