Ms Rogers (LRC Manager)

In the UK, October marks the beginning of Black History Month, an annual event held since 1987. This national month of celebration aims to promote and celebrate the contributions of those with African and Caribbean heritage to British society and to foster an understanding of Black history in general.

The LRC is committed to ensuring we inform, educate and support the students at BGS. This includes providing girls with access to resources, books and displays that highlight national events as well as school initiatives and the curriculum.

In honour of Black History Month, Miss Kidd (Senior Library Assistant) has produced a stunning display in the Junior School and has incorporated library resources, fiction and non-fiction, as well as her own beautifully designed and hand produced mini-bio’s depicting a selection of important faces, from current famous black role models, to historically significant figures.

In addition, Miss Kidd held lunchtime library sessions showing the girls how to make their own mini-bio and develop our existing display to reflect individual members of the African and Caribbean community that they take inspiration from. As you can see from the images here it was a great success and the girls produced some wonderful works.
