Double Bubble Mapping

By Mrs Martin (Head of Year 3)

As a provocation into our new unit of inquiry we used a thinking strategy from last term called ‘Double Bubble’. In small groups across the three classes, the year group worked to establish the similarities and differences between The International Commerce Centre in Hong Kong and the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Australia, coming to the realisation that one was a building and one, a structure.

Using a triple Venn diagram the girls looked deeper at the properties in which we could sort these; agreeing on technical terms to class these and sorting an array of buildings and structures into small groups to be able to link their ideas together. When they had finished they presented and justified their ideas to their peers.

It was fascinating to have such a variety of perspectives on how these could be sorted and we enjoyed seeing the development in their communication and listening skills as they confidently delivered their ideas.

We are very much looking forward to our visit into the local area to identify materials that are used to construct.
