On Tuesday, our Girls’ Leadership Group (GLG) participated in an engaging Leadership Day to prepare and enthuse them for their year ahead.
We were delighted to be joined by our fantastic alumna speakers, Psychologist and Executive Coach, Kate Lanz (BHS 1982) and Fashion and Sustainability Entrepreneur, Lavinia Fernandes (BHS 1991), who each delivered inspiring and thought-provoking presentations to the students.
Incoming Head Girl, Tash Miller, reflected: “On Tuesday we had a day full of guest speakers and activities to ensure that the GLG is prepared for the year ahead. In the morning, we had the pleasure of having an in-depth discussion with Psychologist and Executive coach, Kate Lanz. She put forward fascinating insights into the male and female brain, allowing us to understand how they function differently. Kate suggested that “your brain should not only be invited to the party, but also allowed to dance”. To ensure dancing brains, we learnt how to capitalise on these differences in our brain and use them to play to our strengths.
“After reflecting Kate’s wisdom over lunch, we were lucky enough to learn vital team management skills from Lavinia Fernandes. She walked us through the foundations of how to effectively lead a group, and reminded us that it only takes one person to make a change. It was so interesting to listen to someone who has worked in so many areas: journalism, business, designer buying, just to name a few. I think that learning from someone with this wealth of experience was an invaluable opportunity. For the rest of the afternoon we were given the chance to brainstorm what our new campaign was going to look like. It was so incredible to see what we could come up with in just an hour, and I think that we were definitely influenced by both Kate and Lavinia’s wise words.
“I am so grateful for this thought-provoking and inspiring day. I think the rest of the GLG will agree with me in saying that it has truly motivated us to do the best job we can, and go into this next year confidently.”
Thank you to our Alumnae community who are always so supportive and such great role models to our students.
