By Mrs Whomsley (Junior School Eco Coordinator)
As part of our celebrations for last week’s Earth Day, our Junior School Eco Reps have been helping pupils in the Junior School to surprise their friends and make them smile by leaving a potted sunflower seed on their desk for them to find.
Every morning break time, the terrace has been a hive of activity, helped by some of our sixth form pupils including our Sustainability Prefects. From making recycled, compostable newspaper plant pots to sowing the sunflower seeds, pupils have joined in enthusiastically to share these amongst friends and teachers. Part of the excitement surrounds the planning of whose desk they will be leaving the plant for and keeping it as a surprise for them.
Teachers have also been the lucky recipients of the plants. Mrs Schofield (Head of Year 4) said: “I returned to my classroom to find four little plant pots and some very excited girls in my class! They really did make me smile and brighten up my afternoon. I am looking forward to growing them in the classroom with the girls in my class.”
