By Mrs Baker (Year 4 Teacher)
As part of our Unit of Inquiry into How the World Works, Year 4 have been finding out about renewable and non-renewable energy sources. From Geothermal to Wind power, the girls have been using their curiosity and questioning skills to develop their knowledge of ‘clean’ energy and are now undertaking science experiments into the design features of wind turbines.
We have begun by investigating how wind turbines work. In groups, girls chose to change either the length, material or shape of the blades to see which design is the most effective. Discussions have been had on the importance of fair testing, variables and the design process.
Working in groups requires the girls to compromise, negotiate and express their thinking fluently and confidently. We are so excited to test the designs, and discuss the results!
