Junior School Community

By Mrs Schofield (Head of Year 4)

This half term, our Year 4  girls have been so privileged to welcome many parents from the BGS community into the school to share information about their varied careers.

On Friday 6th October, we had the pleasure of listening to the amazing Mrs Fryer, who wears many hats (and colourful dungarees), working as a Counsellor, a volunteer for the Samaritans, and a member of the organisation SMART (supporting the homeless). It was clear from the outset that Mrs Fryer was going to be lots of fun, and the girls listened avidly to some of the roles and responsibilities surrounding helping others in difficult situations.

Mrs Fryer advised the girls about how to be mindful and present in a moment, and used the practice of holding a sweet in your mouth and noticing the texture and taste slowly. Not surprisingly, this was an extremely popular activity which proved tricky for some to maintain!

Imogen (Year 4) said: “I found Mrs Fryer really fun and I really liked eating the sweet and thinking about the different flavours as I ate it.”

Harriett (Year 4) added: “I knew I wanted to work in a job where I could help people and Mrs Fryer showed me how I could do it one day.”

We extend our thanks to Mrs Fryer, we are so grateful to all the parents who have offered to come in and give up their valuable time to open the girls minds to the different career opportunities available.
