By Mrs Whomsley (Head of Year 5)
On Monday 20th May, Year 5 participated in an exciting podcast workshop led by a seasoned radio and television producer, Johanna Hall.
The workshop provided a unique opportunity for the students to learn the intricacies of creating professional-quality podcasts. Key skills covered included the use of sound effects to enhance audio storytelling, the art of conducting vox pop interviews to capture public opinions, and essential interviewing techniques to engage guests effectively. Additionally, the girls delved into script writing, learning how to craft engaging and coherent narratives for their podcasts. This hands-on experience was invaluable in giving the students a taste of real-world journalism and broadcast production.
In a display of teamwork and individual responsibility, the girls took on various roles in the production process, each contributing to different aspects of their podcast projects. The topics they chose—health, sport, and well-being—reflect their awareness and interest in relevant and impactful subjects.
This collaborative effort not only honed their technical skills but also reinforced their journalistic learning from their English work this term. By the end of the workshop, our girls had not only gained practical podcasting skills but also a deeper understanding of how to communicate effectively and creatively about topics that matter to their community.
