We’re super proud of star athlete Emily Elphick (Year 7), who recently set a new club record of 33.72 metres in the Under 13 Girls’ Javelin at the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire County Championships this May.
After joining BGS in Year 6 and trying athletics for the first-time last summer, Emily decided to join Bedford and County Athletics Club at the end of last season and tried out various track and field events. Her first competition for Bedford and County Athletics Club was in April, where she discovered her talent for javelin.
During her fourth competition for the club, the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire County Championships on Tuesday, 11th May, which took place in Watford, Emily threw 33.72m, surpassing the previous championship record of 27.5m and the previous club record of 31.5m, both of which had been in place since 1996. Her throw means she is currently ranked number 2 in the UK for her age group.
Emily reflected: “It has been great to achieve this record after such a short time practising the event. I am looking forward to seeing how much further I can throw over the coming years as well as trying some new events.”
Congratulations Emily on your remarkable achievement. We're all excited to see where your journey in athletics takes you next!
