Our alumnae continued to represent BGS on the international stage across a wide range of sports this summer.

From competing in the Paris Olympic Games to achieving success at the UEC Track Juniors/U23 European Championships and serving as a Games Operations Officer for the British Paralympic Association, our alumnae continue to inspire and excel on the global sporting stage.

BGS alumna, Revée Walcott-Nolan (2013), competed in her second Olympic Games in Paris this summer. The 1500m runner's path to Paris included a packed schedule in the lead-up to the Games, with three races in three weeks, resulting in three personal bests (PBs) – culminating in a time of 4:03.84 in Zagreb. This was almost two and a half seconds faster than she had ever run at the start of the season, but less than half a second shy of the Olympic standard. Revée finally achieved the Olympic Standard time at the Ostrava Golden Spike in late May (4:02.42), followed by two more PBs: 4:00.77 in Stockholm, and 4:00.43 in Bydgoszcz.

During the semi-final qualification race, Revée narrowly missed out on an automatic qualification spot, finishing eighth in her heat, but she qualified for the repechage round. She then ran a brave race to book her place in the semi-final. In the second semi-final, Revée set a personal best time of 3:58.08. Having gone through the repechage, the two-time Olympian climbed to sixth on the British all-time list. However, despite her impressive performance in the semi-final, she finished ninth and exited the competition, though proud to have achieved another personal best.

BGS alumna and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, Sophie Lewis (2020), continues to go from strength to strength in her international cycling career. At the beginning of July, Sophie won two gold medals at the 2024 UEC Track Juniors/U23 European Championships at Cottbus Sport Centre Velodrome in Germany. She secured GB’s first gold medal in the under-23 women's elimination race, followed by her second gold medal in the under-23 women's team pursuit, winning a close race against Switzerland.

In action in a different way, Bronwyn Tagg (2019), has been involved in mixed media campaigns for GB hockey this Olympic summer. These have included capturing the kitting out of Team GB Hockey and showcasing the unique stories of the sport’s Olympian players, followed by live reporting from the Olympic site in Paris, reporting on the team’s progression through the competition and generating support for the team.

Finally, we are proud of BGS alumna Katie Parrish (2017), who has played a crucial role in the lead-up to and during the Paralympic Games as a Games Operations Officer for the British Paralympic Association. Katie was a key organiser in the mammoth GB kitting event, which involved setting up an entire kit warehouse, receiving and stock-checking 51,000 items of kit, and coordinating the kitting out of over 650 members of the Paralympics GB team.
