By Mrs Baker (Year 5 Teacher)
On Tuesday, our Year 5 classes visited the Bedfordshire Archives to learn about different map representations. The weather was glorious as we walked along the river to our local archives.
On arrival at the archives, the girls were fascinated by the variety of beautiful hand drawn maps on display. In an increasingly digital world, the girls were mesmerised by the vast quantities of physical maps. A standout piece for many of them was a long map detailing a proposed railway route, which the girls were allowed to unfurl.
This visit sparked a deeper interest in maps, geography, and history. Many of the students left feeling inspired, with some even expressing a desire to explore careers as cartographers or archivists in the future.
