The U19 County Lacrosse Tournament held at Berkhamsted School marked an important milestone for BGS, as it was the first time we were able to field three senior teams - U19A, B, and C - in this competition. The event featured some of the strongest teams in the region, including Berkhamsted, Haberdashers' Girls' School, St Albans High School for Girls, Stowe, Haileybury, and St George's, offering a challenging and exciting day of lacrosse.
With 48 students from Years 11, Lower and Upper Sixth representing BGS, this tournament was a key early-season test. It offered our teams the chance to build chemistry and develop their gameplay with only a few training sessions under their belts. By blending different year groups to form the 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams, this was the first competitive outing for many players, serving as valuable preparation for the Lacrosse Nationals in March 2025.
The 1st team displayed exceptional lacrosse throughout the day, with their work ethic and teamwork praised by several opponents. Notable victories came against Stowe and Haileybury, as well as a hard-fought draw with Habs. The narrow losses to the other schools showcased BGS's competitive edge and potential moving forward this season.
Both the 2nd and 3rd teams made their mark, with special recognition going to the 3rd team for their resilience and determination. In the 3rd place playoff, they pushed Berkhamsted to the limit, narrowly losing in dramatic fashion on a golden goal.
Overall, the tournament was a fantastic opportunity for the teams to gain match experience and bond, laying a strong foundation for the season ahead.
