On Tuesday 15th October, our Year 8 students had an enriching opportunity to explore the fascinating world of mathematics through a visit to Bletchley Park.

Bletchley Park is renowned for its significant contributions to mathematics, particularly in the fields of cryptography and computing during the Second World War. This visit provided our students with a unique chance to see first-hand how the mathematical concepts they learn in class were applied in real-world situations that shaped history.

Fathima Nabihah (Year 8) said: “Bletchley Park was an exciting experience for us all. We learnt so much about the war, different strategies and tactics, and it was also a moment to recognise all the great minds behind it. We explored the various buildings, trying out different buttons, codes, and much more! A notable number of us had a go at cracking the codes and even used the original Enigma machine; this was a memorable and enjoyable visit!”

Mimi Morgan (Year 8) reflected: “Bletchley Park was really interesting with lots of exhibits and interactive activities to do. During our visit we watched clips, and learned how to translate enigma code. We got given booklets and had to answer questions and clues that we learned around the museum. I now know so much more information and facts. The museum was really fun, and I had a great time.

Isabelle (Year 8) added: “I thoroughly enjoyed my day at Bletchley Park. It was so interesting, and I loved finding out about the codebreakers and what happened during the war. I think this is going to be a school trip to remember!”
