By Mrs Schofield (Head of Year 4)
Our Year 4 pupils have been immersing themselves in the dramatic history of Mount Vesuvius’ eruption in Pompeii, using their creativity to bring this ancient event to life.
As part of our Unit of Inquiry on past civilizations, the girls have explored how life in Pompeii was dramatically changed by the volcanic eruption and how ancient societies continue to influence us today. Inspired by their studies, they crafted vivid Haikus to capture the intensity of the eruption, expressing powerful imagery in just a few lines.
Additionally, the girls have created striking collages of the eruption using colourful yarn to depict bright lava flows and swirling pyroclastic ash. These unique artworks reflect each student’s personal vision of the scene, capturing both the beauty and devastation of Vesuvius. Their enthusiasm and creativity have made this project a memorable highlight of the term!
Zoe (4A) added: “The story of Pompeii was sad and tragic because a lot of people lost their lives. I am glad we now know how to warn people and evacuate quickly to save lives.”
