As part of our How the World Works Unit of Inquiry, on Tuesday 26th November, Year 5 embarked on an exciting journey to the National Space Centre. A trip designed to ignite curiosity and deepen understanding of the technology that has enabled humanity to explore space. The trip was not only educational but also an inspiring highlight of the term, providing hands-on experiences that brought learning to life.
The day began with a fascinating introduction to space exploration, tracing its history from the early days of rocketry to modern missions. The girls were engaged by stories of astronauts and the challenges they faced in their quest to reach the stars.
The Space Centre’s planetarium show was another standout experience. Sitting beneath a dome of twinkling lights, our girls were taken on a virtual journey through the challenges of space and the training astronauts undertake to be able to survive in space.
This trip also encouraged thoughtful reflection on the impact of space technology on our lives. Through interactive exhibits, students explored satellite technology, GPS systems, and innovations like space robotics, making connections to how these advancements have transformed communication, navigation, and even daily life on Earth.
Overall, the trip to the Space Centre was a memorable and enriching experience, complementing our Unit of Inquiry and highlighting the value of curiosity and innovation.
