By Miss Dawson (Head of Year 9)
Earlier this half term, Year 9 were introduced to our international charity, United World Schools (UWS), which works in schools in remote areas of South East Asia. The charity focuses particularly on girls’ education and issues such as period poverty, partnering with local communities and supporters worldwide to teach those who are otherwise unreached.
After learning about the charity and discovering how relatively small sums of money can make a significant impact, each Year 9 form group was challenged to devise fundraising ideas to support this cause.
This week, we launched a charity fair, with each form hosting its own stall. Planned, organised, promoted, and run by the students, the stalls included a variety of activities, from selling cakes to running a tombola and lucky dip. The fair was a tremendous success, raising an impressive £306, while also helping to raise awareness of the charity’s vital work.
