This half term in Year 8 English, students have been learning about travel writing. A fantastic way to explore representations of other cultures, countries and people, it is also a unit which allows students to try and write in a real range of styles. After completing the usual travel brochures and challenging ourselves to write in the style of Bill Bryson, our attention turned this week to how travel writing might be presented in audio-visual formats.

Armed with their iPads, students in 8AOH set off to create a travel vlog. Their destination? The luxury resort and must-visit destination: BGS! Students used their creativity to reimagine the school, with the dining hall now a five-star restaurant, the iCreate a cultural hotspot, and the drama studio our very own Broadway theatre. As well as planning, scripting and recording different bits of footage, the students have been honing their editing skills, using various apps on the iPads to create a coherent piece of work which uses the features of modern vlogging successfully.

The finished products were wonderful - almost enough to make us think twice about where to spend our half term holiday next week!
