Tenner Challenge

Senior School

By Mrs Simms (Business and Economics Teacher)

Our annual tenner challenge project resulted in weeks of preparation, planning, and creativity from the Year 8 forms. Our Business and Economics society Lower Sixth students spent their form times with their groups ensuring they were ready and now it was time to showcase their hard work.

On Friday 21st March, as soon as the Junior School ‘customers’ arrived, the marketplace buzzed with excitement. They browsed an array of impressive homemade creations, from beautifully crocheted octopuses, complete with adoption certificates, to hand-sewn scrunchies, homemade slime and lip scrubs! The talented face painters were in high demand, creating lovely designs for the Junior School to wear to their colour run event later that day.

The Year 8s worked tirelessly to sell their products, with some adjusting prices or using enthusiastic sales tactics as stock began to run low. By the time the Senior School students had their turn to shop, many stalls had already sold out.

Thanks to their effort, our students raised just over £500 for the FACES Bedford charity. The event was a huge success, and the joyful smiles of the Junior School children were a testament to the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of our Year 8s. Well done to everyone involved!

Asha and Gracie (Lower Sixth) added: “We found the Tenner challenge to be extremely rewarding; working with the Year 8s every week meant we could contribute to the school community spirit and help younger students their entrepreneurial potential. Managing the fair developed our leadership experience and gave us an insight into the running of enterprising events. It was great to see the end result, and to see the Year 8s achieve success.”
