The exam period is well underway many of you will be familiar with assessment through written examination. However, in Food Technology the most important aspects of a girl's learning are shown through practical assessments. This allows the girls to respond to a practical challenge and showcase what they have learnt from their course.
The girls are asked to research, plan and complete a practical activity. In Year 7 this involves a breakfast challenge, Year 8 a family meal with a twist and in Year 9 dishes linked with sustainability, which supports local communities and environments.
The skills developed in Years 7 to 9 underpin the GCSE non-examined assessments, consisting of a Food Science Investigation and a Practical Assessment. Year 10 will undergo a written examination and a 3-hour practical, this year linked to international cuisines.
Mrs Sayce, Head of Food Technology, adds: “It is wonderful to see the investment the girls make in planning and preparing such a wide variety of dishes for their practical assessments. As they grow in confidence girls work independently to select dishes of increasing complexity.”
