Sixth Form Art & Textiles

Mrs Lugsden (Head of Art and Textiles)

We are thrilled to have all our talented Sixth Form artists back in the dedicated studio spaces once again. It is wonderful to walk down the corridor and hear the sound of practical work being undertaken, the buzz of activity. Students and staff all did an absolutely amazing job working remotely, but it is great to be back!

We are aware more than ever as a community that creativity engages the mind, offers the opportunity to consider alternate ways of thinking, allows us to connect with ourselves and nurtures confidence. The creative process is participatory and interactive, and fosters a sense of curiosity; having the students back in school has served to reignite the importance of giving the very best opportunities within our creative areas to stimulate their interest, build joy into their day and develop their sense of engagement with the creative process.

We are incredibly fortunate to teach and learn in a very well-resourced environment, and the ease with which students’ creative journeys can be enhanced when working in such a space will never be underestimated. Being able to work on a larger scale in an expressive way with a vast range of materials and techniques has been missed by students (and staff), and I know that there will be much exciting work generated over the coming weeks, and I can’t wait to see it and share it with the wider community.
