Sprout – Our Climate Change App

Sixth Form IB

As part of the IB Diploma Programme, all students undertake a Group 4 Science Project. Previously, we highlighted how the first group researched peoples’ perceptions of climate change. You can read the feature here.

This week, we are focusing on how the second group developed an innovative beta app called Sprout, to help raise awareness of and tackle climate change.

Avani Tambe (Lower Sixth) said: “Overall, the project was a great success. I think that splitting the jobs we had to do to create our app, and playing to each other’s strengths worked very well, because we managed to get everything done, whilst also working collaboratively. I learnt from this project the importance of awareness to do with climate change, and the severity of the situation- and I now feel more compelled to be more eco-friendly. In the future, I would maybe be a bit more involved in the research aspect of the project, so that I can broaden my knowledge further.”

Mckenna Nel (Lower Sixth) said: “Our project was a success. We communicated well, got our ideas across, everyone was heard and we worked well within the timeframe. Overall, we could have improved our planning skills as we were rushing towards the end of the project deadline and didn’t work as effectively together as we could have done.”

“I personally acquired so much more information on climate change, got an insight into what people do in their daily lives and what they perceive as their “duty” towards the environment. I want to work better on improving how I contribute positively to the environment as well as now knowing what alternatives are and how to trace certain products. We split up into pairs and completed our part, then joined up again to discuss our findings and insert them into the slide that was shared with everyone. So, in this way we were working in pairs and as a group, never individually.”
