Mr Mason-McLeod (Head of Hockey)
Following their impressive performances at the East Regional Finals during November, our talented U14 hockey players now set their sights on the coveted England Hockey Girls’ Schools U14 Tier 2 Championships at Nottingham.
The team had an early start on Monday morning and were eager to showcase their skills at the Nottingham Hockey Centre. With a full squad of 16, the U14s started their group stage against the Abbey School. It was a very tight and nervy first game with Bella Moretto scoring the only goal to win their first game 1-0.
Up next was the Latymer Upper School, again an early goal from Bella Moretto settled the nerves and BGS went into half time 1-0 up. After some encouraging words from the BGS coaching team, BGS put on a fantastic second half with goals from Isla Campbell, Martii Maze-Brown and Roisin Scanlon and ended up 4-0 winners.
The final group game was against Durham School. Isla Campbell scored just before half time to put the BGS up 1-0 at half time and then two more quick goals in succession from Roisin Scanlon and Lucy Nissen put BGS 3-0 up and through to the National Final. BGS were to play St John’s School, Leatherhead. Unfortunately, the team went down 1-0 to a very good side and picked up the silver medal.
The students played extremely well in their first major competition. They worked really hard for each other and never stopped fighting. We are very proud of all 16 players that represented BGS so well.
