By Miss Bream (Teacher of Dance and Coordinator of Co-Curricular Dance)

On Thursday 16th March, the Sixth Form students took part in a workshop bringing the Science of Psychology and the movement of Dance together.

The purpose of the workshop was to enhance and embellish students' learning of the nervous system and it gave them an ideal opportunity to experience how dance is a helpful medium that can be used to explore absolutely any concept or subject. With much enthusiasm and a wonderful sense of enjoyment, students worked collaboratively to learn movement phrases that represented how our sensory receptors, action potentials and synaptic transmission operate in our neurons.

The morning concluded with students presenting a piece of choreography that combined the various sections together and a plenary of learning from Mrs Paula Harrold. In the afternoon, the students worked in groups to collaboratively create songs that consolidated their learning on the fight or flight response.

The day ended with them enjoying performing their songs to each other.
