On a very bright blustery Tuesday morning, the Bedford Girls’ School cross-country team took to the muddy trails of the annual Bedfordia Cross Country Run at Lincroft Academy.
The girls where divided up into year groups with the Years 5 and 6 girls setting off first, which set the tone for the rest of the run. For a cross country course this one was relatively flat with good soft surface to run on. The course was run over a base distance of 2km and became progressively longer by around 400m as the year groups progressed.
This was not only an individual event but also a team event. This meant that the winner claimed one point, second two points and so on. The accumulative results from the first six girls in each category went towards the overall team score. The other members of the team had an important task of pushing other schools scores down.
After a strong team performance, all three age groups finished 3rd out of the 50+ teams competing and we were the 1st placed team in all ages in the County. We wait eagerly to see how the team do in next week’s District Race.
Special mentions must go to the first BGS girl in each category:
Year 8 Sophie Forbes Laird
Year 7 Gabi Woodroffe Gomez
Year 6 Rachel Forbes Laird
