Chloe Boul (Head Girl, Lower Sixth)

This past Sunday and Monday (24th-25th of March) was the GLG Weekend, when the Upper Sixth officially step back and the Lower Sixth take over. It was an amazing weekend, full of fun and laughter, and we bonded over the small challenges that the weekend brought.

On Sunday morning, we all arrived bright and early in Cambridge for a scavenger hunt. Splitting up into four teams, we worked to complete a set of tasks, such as floating on water (we used punting boats) and searching for dinosaur bones. Dashing round Cambridge was made even more enjoyable by the lovely weather.

In the afternoon, the incoming GLG headed back to school to prepare a meal and the evening’s entertainment while the Upper Sixth stayed in Cambridge and enjoyed an afternoon of punting. Back at BGS, we split into teams, with some people going shopping and the rest of us doing our best to set up a tent (which is very difficult when you don’t have any instructions). The afternoon went smoothly, with many challenges being quickly overcome through teamwork and imagination. By the time Miss MacKenzie and the Upper Sixth arrived there was a gazebo decorated with fairy lights and candles and a delicious meal waiting. As the evening progressed, we learned new things about each other and received some truly excellent advice from the outgoing GLG. We then proceeded to spend a night camping together - in a tent that fortunately didn’t collapse in the night.

After waking up on Monday morning, we all spent the day taking part in a leadership workshop, doing a variety of activities and received our badges in assembly. That evening the prefects joined us for team-building activities. We were able to discover our strengths and weaknesses as a team and realised that it is much easier to complete tasks when you have people helping and supporting you. At the end, parents arrived for a barbecue to celebrate our achievements. Overall, it was an amazing weekend and we left excited about taking on the new challenge of our roles and knowing that this will be a wonderful year.
