Our French film club, Cinéfilles, meets every half term to discuss a different film. This half term’s film was Bienvenue à Marly-Gomont, a film which, set in 1975 and based on a true story, follows Seyolo Zantoko, a Congolese medical graduate as he moves to a rural French village to become a doctor.
He and his family struggle to fit in, but Seyolo is determined to earn the villagers' trust and become part of the village. The film deals with themes of prejudice, family and stereotypes, with a sense of optimism and humour. We rated it very highly, giving either 4 or 5 stars, and would definitely recommend it as a great family film to watch!
