On Thursday 6th March, BGS Lower Sixth students, along with students from nine other schools across the South East, were invited to an engaging all-day lecture at Benenden School’s Enterprise and Innovation Conference, which aimed to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs.
We heard from ten keynote speakers, including Rob Law, creator of Trunki and Demetra Pinsent, CEO of Charlotte Tilbury. The talks featured interviews, advice for the future and fascinating stories about how the speakers reached their current positions.
The success and knowledge of these speakers were truly inspiring. One of my particular favourites was Helen Beedham, who spoke about procrastination and time management. She said, ‘Be more sloth. Be less hamster. Eat the frog.’ This idea suggests that hamsters can run in a wheel and go nowhere, implying that overworking yourself does not always lead to progress. In contrast, sloths take their time and achieve things steadily but with high quality. ‘Eat the frog’ refers to identifying your most difficult task of the day and completing it before moving on to anything else.
After hearing from all ten speakers, we were fortunate enough to receive Charlotte Tilbury gifts, which everyone was delighted about. The trip to Benenden School was both eye-opening and rewarding. We all agreed that it was a valuable and educational experience.
