Duke of Edinburgh (DofE)

Mr Farrell (Duke of Edinburgh Manager)

During half term, groups from Years 9 and 10 completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Training. These days were designed to help prepare the girls to successfully complete their expeditions. During the two days, the girls learnt how to navigate; put up a tent; what to bring with them on their expedition; First Aid and emergency procedures and what food to take.

In addition, they all practised using expedition’s stoves to make hot chocolate and completed a 4-hour practice walk around Cople. Everyone did really well and enjoyed the training days. We also received really positive feedback from the local residents of Cople who saw the girls out and about on their practice hike.

Here are a few fun statistics from across the four days.

On the training days

  • We had 119 people (107 participants and 12 leaders) attend the two days
  • 642 training sessions were delivered
  • Approximately 32 Litres of hot chocolate was made (and drunk)!

On the two walking days

  • We had 128 people (107 participants and 21 leaders) walk around Cople Countryside.
  • The total distance walked was 1,438km or just under 900 miles.
  • This is approximately the same distance from Bedford to Barcelona!

Many thanks to all the staff members who supported the training days and thank you all those who attended and made it a very successful and enjoyable event.
