BGS Head Swimming coach, Mr Castro added a silver medal to his growing international honours at the AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds on Sunday.

Mr Castro placed second in the 30-34 standard distance category (overall time of 02:01:15) and 10th (out of 1209) overall amongst all age group categories! He was also super excited to also see BGS alumna Bronwyn Tagg (2019), who also put in a fantastic performance coming 3rd in the female category.

We spoke to Mr Castro about the championship, he said: “After a long break from competing, the British standard distance championships came around very quickly. The last time the event was on in 2019 I was the overall winner so I was looking to retain the title. Diving in to the cool water of waterloo lake in Roundhay park and started swimming I knew then this particular race was going to be a struggle. Still managing to post the fastest swim of the day I went on to the bike leg and really enjoyed racing around the streets of Leeds.

“I am now looking forward to racing at the Outlaw 70.3 event in Nottingham in two weeks’ time in the elite race. It was great to see our BGS alumna Bronwyn going from strength-to-strength in the sport, she is great role model for younger students looking to take up the discipline.”

Inspiring to all students, BGS and the wider community are extremely proud of Mr Castro and Bronwyn’s outstanding achievements.
