Whole School Music

Monday night at BGS was unforgettable as the Junior and Senior Schools came together for the much-anticipated Spring Concert. Following their success at the Beds Festival 2025, several groups and soloists shared their festival highlights with the BGS community.

The evening began with Bel Canto, whose festival-winning renditions of The Seal Lullaby, Diaphenia, and The Parting Glass, performed while circling the audience, set a great tone. Later, their younger counterparts, Baby Bels, led by Mrs Jones (Music teacher), performed Five Eyes and The Aquarium with enthusiasm.

The Junior Strings took the audience on a musical journey with Lost in Space and Return to Earth, while the Senior Strings added a lively Renaissance flair with Battles & Brawls. The piece wowed with expressive solos and unique string techniques like harmonics, col legno, snap pizzicato and dramatic tremolos.

One of the biggest ensembles of the night, the Junior Orchestra directed by Mrs Parsons (Deputy Director of Music), filled the stage with energy, despite the absence of Year 4, who were away on a residential trip to Grafham Water. Their performances of The Muppets and Ghostbusters, complete with enthusiastic shouts of "Ghostbusters!" from the performers, were a crowd favourite.

The Senior Orchestra followed with a medley from The Phantom of the Opera, before everyone joined in for a feel-good singalong of the early 2000s classic Reach for the Stars.

The evening also featured performances from the Genesis Choir, a Clarinet Trio, a Flute Duet, soloists, and three rock bands. Longstanding favourites Astrophe and Counteract delivered electrifying sets, while the Year 9 Band made a promising debut.

The warm reception from the audience made all the rehearsals worthwhile, and it’s clear that the Spring Concert will be a highlight of the musical year!
