On Wednesday afternoon, BGS students and staff enjoyed a succession of Prize Giving events in the beautiful marquee setting within the school grounds. The Prize Giving events celebrated the success of the students from Years 7 to Upper Sixth group bubbles, who have gone above and beyond this year, prizes ranged from Academic Excellence to Citizenship.
Throughout the day, two year groups at a time came together, within COVID guidance, to celebrate with their peers with the prize giving events and refreshments, creating a lovely atmosphere across the day. The students were treated to wonderful musical and speech and drama performances from their cohort before listening to an address from Mrs Gibson (Headmistress), which reminded us of the importance of community celebrations and that benefits we gain from marking key milestones
During the final Prize Giving event (Years 11 to Upper Sixth), there were beautiful performances including Aria from Masha Ermakova (Lower Sixth) and Stronger Than Magic by Year 11 students, Tess Garrett, Emmie-Rose Stephens and Ruby Adams
After the performances, awards were handed out, with Upper Sixth student, Anna Hull, being awarded the School Dux. To finish, Eloise Toone (Upper Sixth) gave a breath taking performance of Gounod (Jewel Song), a fitting finish to complete the day.
Head Girl, Masooma Sultana then delivered a reflective GLG speech, she said: “Despite what this year has been like for you, you have completed this part of your journey with great achievements and beautiful memories. I know that everyone in this room is capable of achieving great things and I hope that you use these next few years to work hard but also discover and experience things that will help you to grow into the powerful young adults that you can all become.”
Although we could not invite our amazing BGS community due the current restrictions, we have filmed all the events. These will be shared with the community shortly.
A huge congratulations to everyone who continues to demonstrate the values of BGS during this period of such uncertainty, and the awards seem particularly special this year as they represent achievements in the most difficult of circumstances.
