Lauren Lewis (Head Girl)
This year the GLG are emphasising why it is important to love yourself, just the way you are. Our campaign ‘learning to love yourself’ hopes to increase the confidence and self-belief of girls here at BGS.
A lack of confidence in young people is on the rise, with at least one in four young people admitting to body confidence issues, and behaviours reflective of a lack of self-confidence evident in children as young as six years old. Due to the rise of social media, young people are under constant pressure to conform to the idealised bodies and lives that we see online, and appearance based bullying is now at alarming levels, with 55% of young people reporting being bullied for how they look.
As part of this campaign, we have assembled an exhibition in the green room entitled Perfectly Me, with the aim of getting everyone thinking about ways in which we can all love ourselves a little bit more.
The subject of this exhibition will change every half term, and this half term the subject is: 'One thing I love about myself is...'. There are post-it notes in the Green Room for students to jot down things they love about themselves. We look forward to seeing the 'wall' of post-it notes grow!
