We are thrilled to announce that the Junior School has achieved accreditation as an IB World School, offering the prestigious International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), following a rigorous two-year candidacy phase.
Mrs Howe (Head of the Junior School) reflected on this achievement: “I am incredibly proud that the Junior School is joining such a prestigious global educational organisation. The IB PYP is an exciting approach to learning that will ensure we remain at the forefront of education as a forward-thinking, future-inspired school where the individual child is at the very heart of learning. We are the only day school in the region to offer this approach and we join a global network of outstanding schools who offer this exceptional educational programme.”
During the final authorisation visit the Junior School received a glowing report commendation which included: for ‘facilitating an understanding and commitment to constructivism and inquiry-based learning’; for having ‘outstanding facilities to support student learning’; and for ‘facilitating a learning environment that allows students to become responsible for their own learning.’
The IB PYP is a world-renowned approach to learning which offers a transdisciplinary, inquiry-based and student-centered education. At its core, it is a future focused education that develops young students as caring, active participants in a lifelong journey of learning and enables students to learn between, across and beyond traditional subject boundaries.
Since opening its doors as BGS in 2012, the school has gone from strength-to-strength in delivering the well-rounded and internationally regarded IB Diploma programme of study in the Sixth Form. The Junior School’s engaging inquiry led focused approach aligns with the IB principles in preparing the younger students for future success in a globalised society.
Mrs Gibson (Headmistress) said: “This is a significant development in our strategy, building our reputation as a leading IB school in the UK, as we truly equip our students with the attributes and confidence needed to face the opportunities and challenges of an uncertain world. We look forward to this exciting new chapter in our Junior School.”
