By Mrs Lugsden (Head of Art and Textiles)

On Wednesday evening, we once again welcomed visitors to the Art Department, joining us to celebrate the achievements of our Upper Sixth IB Visual Art students, Evie Hayward and Martha Ibbott.

The show, which was fully curated by students, explored a number of interesting concepts, such as identity and a sense of self. Art works varied from conceptual sculptural word-based work to ceramic face casts, sustained observational drawings to experimental collage.

The variety of work on show demonstrates students’ creative and open-minded attitude, where they have been excited by new ways of working, and able to refine and hone their skills to develop strong creative outcomes.

Curating an exhibition is a requirement of the IB Visual Arts programme, and presents an exciting opportunity to celebrate the ambitious, intriguing and skilled work that the students have created over the past months. A huge amount of time and effort went into developing this end of year show, and both Evie and Martha should be immensely proud of the creative journeys they have been on.
