Always a showstopper, House Talent remains one of the key highlights of the year, engaging every student from Year 3 through to the Upper Sixth.
One of the main goals for each House is to secure the coveted Cup for the best House Song. Alongside this, there are also Cups awarded for the Best Junior and Senior acts.
Although the competition took place last week, students and staff alike had been waiting with bated breath for the results, which were announced during the Whole School House Assembly on Thursday morning.
This year, 30 different acts reached the Finals, and on Thursday 5th December, the entire school came together for an afternoon of performances in the Assembly Hall. Each House showcased their House Song in front of an enthusiastic audience.
Hosting the event were Mr Gracie (Deputy Head) and Mrs Hudson-Findley (Director of Digital Learning, Enterprise and Sustainability), whose light-hearted jokes and engaging commentary added to the lively atmosphere.
In the Junior category, Victoria Ng (Year 5, Parks) performed beautifully and with poise on the violin that earned her second place. However, in the end, our judge - former BGS Head of Dance, Mrs Winter, awarded Sadie Newton (Year 5, Hepburn) first place for her humorous ventriloquist puppet act.
The Senior competition was equally fierce. Notable mentions include Keira Katasi (Year 7, Parks) with her impressive gymnastics’ routine and Rhiannon Douglass (Upper Sixth, Nightingale) on guitar with her soulful rendition of Hozier’s Too Sweet. In the end, the second place went to the duet of Isabella Davis (Year 10, Chanel) on vocals and Nazor Onuekwusi on piano delivering a powerful performance of Queen’s iconic Bohemian Rhapsody. First place was awarded to Danae Karavaggelis (Lower Sixth, Hepburn) for her outstanding performance on the piano.
The House Songs remain the heart of House Talent, with every member of each House taking part. All the performances were impressive, but Nightingale emerged victorious with their lively performance of Taylor Swift’s You Belong with Me.
And finally, the overall winners, based on the number of students auditioning and winning events, were Parks. A big round of applause to them!
