Senior School Rowing

We are very proud of Isabella Hoare, Year 7, who secured 7th place in the British Rowing Indoor Championships 2024.

The event, held on Saturday 7th December at the NEC, Birmingham, welcomed 1,800 athletes competing across 178 categories, with 51 titles up for grabs. Competitors raced in an electrifying arena, where all machines were wired to a central computer. A large scoreboard displayed each athlete as a yellow boat moving across a screen, creating an exciting atmosphere for participants and spectators alike.

Isabella competed in the Year 7 Girls category, a two-minute time trial, and achieved an impressive 476 metres, beating her personal best. Her performance earned her 7th place among 30 competitors in her category and would have placed her 6th in the equivalent Year 7 Boys category. In preparation, Isabella undertook training on Concept 2 machines, focusing on both technical precision and physical endurance.

Her interest in rowing began after attending the Henley Royal Regatta in July. She was inspired by her experience in the Stewards’ Enclosure, where she spoke with friends and enjoyed watching the races.

Isabella reflected on her achievement: “This has been a challenging but fun few months. I have been working towards this event for a while, and I’m glad the hard work has paid off. I originally set a target of 10th place, so I’m overjoyed to have come 7th.”

Congratulations, Isabella, on this fantastic achievement!
