On Saturday 22nd March, we were delighted to take a small delegation of Years 10 to Lower Sixth students to Dr Challoner’s High School for a one-day Model United Nations (MUN) Conference.
The MUN was a great opportunity for all following weeks of preparation for the conference, both during the lunchtime co-curricular club and after-school sessions.
Mahdiyah Meghji (Year 11) commented: “The MUN conference reflected our school's values of being bold, imaginative and reflective, being bold in coming forward with ideas, being reflective when it comes to other people's opinions and working together and being imaginative when it comes to quick thinking in fast debates and unpredictable situations.”
“Furthermore, it was a new environment for everyone, which included a different schedule and different procedures, one of which involved speaking in front of all members present. The fact that the resolutions were debated in the general assembly was really interesting and a fun experience, helping build my confidence and public speaking skills.”
Jette Schreyer (Year 11) said: “Seeing all those people collaborate today made me believe that maybe in the future, political problems will be handled in the same collaborative, professional and respectful manner as today.”
Zaina-Hibbah Malik (Year 10) added: “I am so glad I was given the opportunity to attend this conference, as it was a really special experience. It gave me more knowledge of the world around us and has massively helped my public speaking skills. Having the opportunity to collaborate with others was really fun, and all in all, it was a very enjoyable experience.”
Kemal Dayal said: “For the Year 10s at BGS, this was the first conference, and they enjoyed it, saying it was a valuable experience. Going into this experience, I was feeling extremely nervous, but during the day, I felt I developed lots of new skills and stepped out of my comfort zone. I am so glad I got to attend this experience.”
