Saturday 13th January marked the first lacrosse matches of the Term with 15 teams out in force at Cople, play against strong competition from Abbots Hill and North London Collegiate (NLC). A clean sweep again Abbots Hill saw BGS unbeaten across all age groups. North London Collegiate arrived with 10 teams to play in second and third round matches, and again BGS performed superbly with wins in all ages.

Our 1st team was made up of predominantly the Lower Sixth girls with Year 11 and the Upper Sixth in the middle of their mocks. Lily Smith Olivia Wright, Amy Blackham and Rosalie Inman from the Upper Sixth were playing their first match for the 1st team and fitted in seamlessly. Some good team play resulted in an 18-3 victory. Special mention also to Eleanor Bruce and Alexa Wilson from Year 11 who also played taking a welcome break from their revision.

The U15 A team had a tight first half against NLC with some new girls in their first or second season of lacrosse gaining valuable A team match experience. We drew away in the second half finishing with a 10-5 win and congratulations to Lara Dalton, Lucy Sherriff and Kira Palmer who are all making tremendous progress and represented the A team for the first time.

The U14 lacrosse squad have been practising extremely hard since September and their improvement was evident with the U14A team winning against Abbots Hill 8 - 5 and having a very hard fought, exciting  second game where NLC just pipped them 10 – 9.  The U14B team also played brilliantly to win their match against NLC. Special mention to Eleanor Schwalm and Alice Munn who are making outstanding progress as our U14A and B team Goal Keepers.

The U13A team had a convincing win against Abbots Hill and had to dig deep to come out with a 7-5 win against NLC. The U13B team also won again NLC and the U13C team in their match despite putting in a valiant effort eventually succumbed 6-5 to NLC.

The U12A, B and C teams had a fabulous time. For many it was their first of second match of lacrosse and they ran their opposition ragged scoring lots of goals, winning all four of their matches but recognising also that there will be stronger opposition to come later on in the term.

The pitches at Cople were in amazing condition, and the hot teas afterwards were hugely welcomed, by both the opposition and BGS girls alike so a big thank you to Lisa Boston and Andy Frizzell our ground staff and Sean Skipper our Head of catering for helping to make it such a fantastic experience for all the players and spectators.
