Over two thousand triathletes descended on the picturesque venue of Woburn Abbey on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th September, for a weekend of sporting challenge, family fun and charity fundraising. Amongst the participants on Sunday was rising triathlete star Gabriela Woodroffe-Gomez (Year 9), who crossed the line in first place with a time of 00:35:02.
We spoke to Gabriela about her triumph, she said: “I competed in the 13-15 age category. It was a beautiful sunny day but the lake water for the swim was a rather chilly 14 degrees. After the 300-metre swim, I came out of the water in a respectable 4th place. After a swift transition onto my bike, I soon managed to catch and pass the girls ahead of me one by one.
“Starting the run, I was over a minute ahead of my nearest competitor, a lead I managed to maintain over the 2600 metre run to gain my first win of the season. My final race this year is at Hever Castle next week, which I hope goes well.”
