Mrs McKinnell (Music Teacher)

This week, the Music Department was thrilled to showcase another series of live streamed concerts, shining the spotlight on our talented musicians in the Junior and Senior Schools.

Throughout this academic year, the Music Department is hosting a remote series of An Evening with events, which began with our keyboard music concert back in September.  Last Friday, we premiered An Evening with GCSE Music, which showcased what our Year 11 Music class has been exploring over the first half term of this year.

The evening featured a variety of work, ranging from performances, to composition, and analysis of set works.  Amongst the performances, it was lovely to see music from all different genres and traditions, from Carnatic singing to musical theatre, popular music and classical music.  For students  who might be considering choosing Music as a GCSE option in future, this video is really worth a watch as an insight into the range covered in the subject. For everybody else, we hope you will join us purely for enjoyment’s sake! Watch it here.

On Tuesday evening, we streamed our first ever remote Junior Teatime Concert. The concert involved performances from girls in Year 3 to 6, and included solo pieces on the piano, violin and clarinet, as well as a duet.

These teatime concerts, which have run for many years now, are vital to our young performers as it gives them a relaxed and informal atmosphere in which to get used to performing for others. We are delighted that this has been able to continue during the current circumstances, in the remote format. This allowed the participants to have a goal towards which they could work, and to experience the excitement of performing in Trinity House with lighting and recording equipment. We hope you enjoy listening to their concert here.
