Beth English (Upper Sixth)
A group of Upper Sixth girls are carrying out participatory action research into cultural identity and how it shapes us as individuals.
Our initial idea centred on the feeling that we live in a perfectionist society, which places an immense amount of pressure on students. This idea made us think about how perfectionism has led to an era of political correctness, in which creativity and individuality are being restrained. We will explore some of these ideas in an upcoming workshop, where we will gather the thoughts of students at both BGS and Bedford School. We hope to discover how our generation feels about culture and find out whether gender is a factor regarding cultural identity.
This project has given all of us involved an opportunity to expand our thinking and develop our research skills, whilst investigating a topic we are interested in outside of the classroom.
We will present our research at the Cambridge Festival of Ideas on Friday 19 October, 5:30pm - 6:30pm. We are really excited to see our talk advertised in the Festival programme.
Tickets for the workshop are free and can be purchased 11am on Monday 24th September.
