Upper Sixth students are seeing the fruits of their UCAS labours as university offers flood in from all over the country.

With excellent organisation and time management skills in getting their applications submitted before Christmas, 94% of students applying already have offers, including from Oxbridge and Conservatoires.

Once again, students have chosen an incredibly broad range of subjects, including Architecture, Pharmacy, Fashion Marketing, Law, Mathematics, Musical Theatre, Materials Science, Fine Art, Medicine, Natural Sciences, Pharmacology, Paramedic Science, Music, Film & Television, Business Management, Astrophysics, Neuroscience, English, Economics, Biology, Industrial Design, Engineering, Computer Science, Philosophy, International Relations and Politics, Criminology, Events Management, Mechatronic & Robotic Engineering, History, Psychology, Theatre Design, and Global Development, to name a few.

Mrs Whitlock (Head of The Bridge Careers Service) said: “The run up to the Christmas holidays in December is always busy, and with a significant number of this year’s Upper Sixth involved in extracurricular activities, I was highly impressed that they were also able to get their UCAS applications sent off before the end of last term. Students have been thorough and thoughtful in selecting courses that are a mix of the challenging and ambitious, as well as those that represent a good plan B. This allows applicants to keep their options open when it comes to making firm and insurance choices, and align these with their academic progress over the coming months, as they finish their studies and polish their exam technique.

“We are delighted that students are embracing the opportunities available to them not just in Higher Education, but in planning gap years and considering alternative pathways such as Apprenticeship programmes too. We will continue to support the students during the remainder of the school year, including offering advice on making firm and insurance choices, and being ready for living away from home. Our Lower Sixth students will also soon be starting their own university application journeys with the Higher Education afternoon and evening next month. Preparation in Lower Sixth underpins well-informed choices in Upper Sixth: as ever, we will follow the progress of all our Sixth Form students with great interest, and wish them every success whichever direction they take.”
