We are delighted to share the exciting news that alumna Alice McIlroy (née Coubrough, DAHS 2006) has recently released her debut novel, The Glass Woman.

This compelling psychological thriller delves into the world of a pioneering female scientist who trials an AI brain implant, weaving themes of autonomy, memory, and identity into a cautionary tale. The novel has received widespread acclaim, with reviews featured in The Guardian, New Scientist, and Irish Times.

After leaving school, Alice pursued English at the University of Exeter before furthering her studies with a postgraduate qualification in Law and training at the Faber Academy’s novel writing programme. Her literary achievements include longlistings for the Stylist Prize for Feminist Fiction and the Grindstone International Novel Prize. Alongside her fiction, Alice’s articles have appeared in BookBrunch, The Author, CrimeReads, and Shots Magazine. In addition to teaching creative writing, she works as a literary scout, helping to shape the world of publishing.

We are thrilled to welcome Alice back to school on the evening of Wednesday 19th November 2025 as part of our Alumnae Speaker Series. Alice will share insights into her writing journey and discuss the creation of The Glass Woman. Tickets for this inspiring event will be available to book at the start of the autumn term.
