This week, Mr Pickard (Chef Manager) shows you how to make American Pancakes! Make sure you get those pancakes flipping on Shrove Tuesday – 16th February.

We would love to see your creations, send your photos to [email protected].

Ingredients

200g Self Raising Flour

1 ½ tsp Baking Powder

1 tbsp Caster Sugar

3 Large Eggs

25g Melted Butter

200ml Milk

Method

  1. Mix the Flour, Baking Powder and Caster Sugar together.
  2. Whisk the Eggs, Melted Butter and Milk into the dry ingredients until a smooth batter is achieved. Transfer the batter to a jug, this will make it easier to pour into your pan to cook.
  3. Melt a knob of butter in a frying pan over a medium heat and add a tsp of vegetable oil.
  4. Pour the batter into the pan about 7 to 8 cm in diameter for each pancake.
  5. Cool the pancakes for approximately 1-2 minutes until the small bubbles appear on the surface.
  6. Turn the pancakes over with a thin spatula and cook for a further 1-2 minutes.
  7. Repeat this process until all the batter is used.
  8. Serve with your choice of topping my favourite being crispy streaky bacon and maple syrup.
  9. Strawberries, raspberries and blueberries are a nice choice too which can be added to the batter before cooking.
  10. If you want to enrichen the batter then buttermilk can be used to substitute the milk
  11. Enjoy.
