Mrs Cruse (Head of Years 7 and 8)

Years 7 and 8 is the start of many students journey through the Senior School at BGS and it is so important that they understand the different cultures, celebrations and values that we all have. It is very important that they learn about others as they start to really develop their own identity and unique self.

The tutor programme for students in Years 7 and 8 involves embracing different traditions and over the last week the students have been given some activities to do to help celebrate the Chinese New Year. They have been set the challenge to design and make their own Chinese New Year lanterns as well as finding out about the year they were born. What does that year say about some of their own personality traits? We have also suggested they have a go at trying a new Chinese dish or indeed cooking a Chinese dish

Lara Spajić (Year 7) has put together a fabulous presentation about her experience of celebrating Chinese New Year in Singapore, she said: “I am very excited about Chinese New Year this year as it is the year of the OX which is my zodiac sign. I lived for four years in Singapore and loved the Chinese culture and began speaking Mandarin there. I continue to learn Mandarin with Dr Chen at Bedford School and am at an advanced level now. I hope you enjoy my presentation.” Click HERE.
