By Mrs Howard (Year 6 Teacher)
Last week Year 6 enjoyed the most glorious weather on our residential trip to Shropshire to visit the scientific field studies centre at Preston Montford. There was never a dull moment, from the second we set off the girls were playing card games on the bus closely followed by lunch and some team building activities on arrival at the centre.
We enjoyed many activities during three days such as: pond dipping, mammal hotels, wildlife rescue, invertebrate hunts, orienteering, fire making and shelter building to name just a few! We teachers and the site leaders witnessed our wonderful girls being; risk-takers, stepping outside of their comfort zones to try new things; curious, asking many questions and exploring; independent, brilliantly organising themselves and their belongings ready for whatever they had next – they even enjoyed the ‘make your own packed lunch station’!
Each and every pupil was kind, resilient and supportive to their friends. It was lovely to see them all make the most of their free time on the beautiful, blossom tree framed lawn doing handstands, playing football or just chatting! We are proud of them all for what they brought to the trip and hope that this experience has allowed them to grow in confidence, forge new friendships, learn more about the environment and make everlasting memories towards the end of their Junior School career.
Millie (Year 6) said: “It was fun to learn about the outside world – my favourite part was how caring the instructors were about the mammals we were tracking and assessing!”
Ayla (Year 6) added: “It was amazing and I loved every minute of it. I learned lots of new things like how to build fires and build shelters.”
