Last week’s STEM Week was an exciting and inspiring experience, with pupils immersing themselves in a variety of activities designed to spark curiosity and develop skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Each day, pupils took part in hands-on pop-up clubs, exploring STEM through creative and interactive challenges. A particular highlight was the Sphero Robotics Club, where pupils programmed and controlled Sphero robots, thanks to a generous donation by BGS Year 4 parent, Mr Elefterescu. Whether investigating Pi for the Maths competition or designing and building their own creations in the Lego Spike Club, it was wonderful to see teamwork, imagination, and problem-solving skills in action.
We were delighted to welcome guest speakers from our alumnae community, who shared their experiences and insights from fields including zoology, engineering and renewable energy.
We welcomed University of Nottingham student, Amy Hall (BGS 2023) who talked about settlement patterns, and current Journalism Masters student, Emily Duchenne (BGS 2017) who spoke about renewable and non-renewable energy. We also heard from Krupa Katechia (BGS 2015), who discussed her role as a bridge engineer and Zoologist graduate, Sara Thomas (BGS 2020), who highlighted how science and technology can help protect our planet.
Throughout the week, parent-led workshops also played a key role in bringing STEM to life. Mr Smith, one of our parents, led a fascinating session on solar panels, giving pupils a hands-on opportunity to learn about renewable energy and its potential for the future.
STEM Week has been a fantastic opportunity for pupils to develop their curiosity and enthusiasm for these subjects. A huge thank you to our guest speakers, alumnae visitors, and parents for their support in making the week such a success.
We look forward to seeing how our pupils continue to embrace STEM in the future and to another inspiring week next year.
