Whole School Technology and Innovation

By Dr Tansell (Head of Computer Science)

Our new Tech Room has become a lively hub of creativity and collaboration, where students’ talents and enthusiasm are on full display.

Recently, members of our RAF and Navy sections in the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) had the chance to experience our flight simulator. This advanced equipment gave them a realistic taste of piloting, helping them develop new skills and explore the world of aviation. It’s been a great opportunity to build their confidence and understanding of flight, perhaps even sparking interest in future careers in the aerospace industry. Their achievements show that gender is no barrier in the world of aviation.

In another exciting project, our students successfully built and programmed Tobie1, our first robot. This six-legged creation uses artificial intelligence to move and perform tasks. The project demonstrated the students’ technical skills and their ability to tackle complex challenges as a team. Through the process, they’ve strengthened their coding skills, problem-solving abilities and knowledge of robotics. It’s been a fantastic team effort, with students working together to overcome challenges and see their project come to life.

Meanwhile, our Sixth Form students have been making great progress with teamwork and strategic thinking through E-Sports. By taking part in competitive gaming, they’ve developed skills such as communication, problem-solving, and leadership. These activities aren’t just enjoyable; they also teach students how to work effectively in teams and think on their feet, preparing them for future careers in technology and other fields.

The Tech Room continues to be a place where students are encouraged to explore new ideas, work together and develop a range of skills. Beyond the technical experience, they’re building confidence, personal growth and a sense of teamwork. We’re proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing what they’ll do next!
